uncertainties Flashcards
1
Q
What is a random uncertainty?
A
- occur due to slight variations in repeated measurements
- more measurements will reduce the uncertainty
2
Q
How to calculate random uncertainties?
A
RU= max value - min value/no of values
3
Q
What are the two types of scale uncertainties?
A
Analog: typically +- half of the smallest scale division
Digital scales: typically +- 1 of the least sig digit in display
4
Q
What are systematic uncertainties?
A
- occur when there are faults in the system you use to carry out the experiment
- all effect results in the same way
- should go to the origin of the graph but it doesn’t
5
Q
How to find the percentage uncertainty?
A
percentage= (uncertainty in x / x) times by 100
