electrical sources and internal resistance Flashcards
What does EMF mean?
electromotive force of a source is the electrical energy supplied to each columb of charge which passes through the source
What is internal resistance?
is the inherent resistance of the supply itself.
What are the ‘lost volts’?
the voltage that will be used up in the overcoming the internal resistance of the supply
What is t.p.d?
is the voltage across the terminals of the supply. This is the same as the voltage across
the load resistor.
What is a short circuit?
is the maximum current that can be drawn from the supply Internal resistance is the negative gradient of a t.p.d. against current graph.
What is an open circuit?
an electrical circuit that is not complete, switch is open or current is zero supply is equal to emf
