How does a country join the UN?
Must be a ‘peace loving state’. All 5 permanent council members must be in agreement and 2/3rds of the non-permanent council.
Where are the UN operating right now?
14 peacekeeping missions as of today. An example would be MINUSMA in Mali where the UN are helping to support the political proccess and stabilize Mali.
What organisations are the UN responsible for?
UNICEF - United Nations Childrens Fund.
UNESCO - United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
WHO - World Health Organisstion.
What do UNICEF do?
Provide humanitarium aid to children and mothers in poor/developing countries.
What do UNESCO do?
Spread knowledge and preserve culture I.e introduce literacy programs + protect world heritage sites.
What do WHO do?
International public health I.e Ebola epidemic
