Ultrasound Flashcards
What other pieces of equipment should be prepared?
transducer, tv, monitor, control panel and printer
What other environmental considerations should be taken?
light and sound
Define Anechoic
without an echo (black)
Define Hypoechoic
darker than usual
Define Hyperechoic
brighter than usual
What is an A-Mode?
amplitude mode- simplest form, shows position of tissue interfaces
What is an B-Mode?
brightness mode, creates 2D image of tissues, most common
What is an M-Mode?
time motion/ movement mode- image surfaces moving
What is the function of a transducer?
converts electrical energy into vibration
What speices can you NOT use surgical spirit on?
cats
What are the patient preparation considerations?
clip hair- contact for transducer
apply coupling gel- improves contact
clean with spirt before can improve image quality-
lateral/dorsal recumbency
lateral- heart sinks towards chest wall
Define acoustic window
area over which sound waves amplified
Define acoustic impendance
degree of resistance, passage of ultrasound- (depends on tissue density/ velocity)
Define interference
junction of two tissues with different impendences- waves reflected back as echos
Which position is best for an endocardiography?
underneath, cut out on special table top
