A

The fusion of powers is unseparated as there are clear overlaps in the three organs of government

Legislative checks and balances.

A

The UK enacts new law when a bill has been approved by the House of Commons and the lords.

Under the Parliaments Act of 1949: lords can only delay an act of legislation for 12 months.

A

Includes all judges in the U.K criminal and civil laws.

Check and balance with how the law should be interpreted and applied.

E.g. judged that Boris Johnson had broken the law by suspending parliament for 5 weeks.

Can the Supreme Court strike down laws

A

No - Can only decide the correct interpretation of the cases/rules such as the case of 2018 Elizebeth Robinson, was knocked over by police, which led to the Supreme Court ruling in her favour.

What is the opposition and how does it check and balance the government

A

Opposition faces the government in order to critique the actions and laws and legislations it puts through

E.g. the opposition leader sir kier Starmer critiquing the Tory government leader Boris Johnson for cutting foreign aid in 2021.

How does the U.K. prime minister check parliament

A

The role of the prime minster is unwritten and so they can operate almost freely. There only limits are political constraints - Theresa may and her vote of no confidence in December 2018.
