- Acts as a shopping destination in N. England - major unis + associated research activities
- Has well developed transport infrastructure - heart of complex motorways (e.g. M1 connects to London and M62, major road) , has canal and waterway network & international airport
- Centre for arts - galleries + music venues
- Global connections between clothing firms + outsourced factories - attract interest + investment - good export links

A
- Diverse with many different cultures, languages, faiths and races which so effective tourism, friendliness and social interactions (night clubs)
- Beautiful scenic areas around the city like Yorkshire dales + other Ares of Outstanding Natural Beauty
- Rapid change in development like street patterns are hard to keep up with + cause traffic, however, new buildings makes peoples lives easier due to more job opportunities
- Headquarters of ASDA + increased tourism due to Tour de France - increase income
- City council plans like building new affordable houses improves life for homeless people + makes it easier to commute on the streets as no one blocks them

- Non-white population grew from 9% to 15% from 1991-2011 - due to nature increase + migration, 17% immigrants from black + ethnic minorities
- 2 waves of Irish community, the 2nd brining in 30,000 Irish migrants for labouring + manufacturing jobs - 1st wave caused Irish to disperse across Leeds
