What is uniform circular motion
Moves in a circular path with constant speed
What is centripetal acceleration
the change in velocity in circular motion due to the constant change in direction. It is always towards the centre of the circle
What are examples of centripetal force
- Turning of car - friction
- Stone in circle - tension
- Earth’s orbit of sun - gravity
- Atom - electrostatic force
What is the minimum velocity for vertical circular motion
√5gl
What is work
work is said to be done when a body acted by a force actually moves some distance
What is a conservative force
Force depends only on the initial and final position
What is potential energy
The energy possessed by a body due to its state of strain or position
What is a collision
Collision is said to occur when two bodies or particles physically strike against each other or influence the path of one another
What is centre of mass
Certain point whose motion characterizes the motion of the whole system
When is torque maximum
When angle = 90
When is J(v) = 0
- when linear momentum = 0
- When mass is at origin
- p(v) Line passes through origin
What is an rigid body
A body which does not produce any displacement of particles of the body relative to each other when external force is applied
What is moment of inertia
The tendency of a body to resist any change in its state of rotation about an axis
What is the formula definition of moment of inertia
The moment of inertia of a rigid body about a given axis is the sum product of the mass of its particles and the square of their respective from the axis of rotation
What is radius of gyration
The radial distance of a point from the axis of rotation which if the whole body’s mass was concentrated there, the moment of inertia would be the same
What is theorem of parallel axis
The moment of inertia of a body about any axis is equal to its moment of inertia about its parallel axis through its centre of mass, plus the product of the mass of the body and the square of the perpendicular and the square of the perpendicular distance between the two axes
What is perpendicular axis theorem
It states that the moment of inertia of an uniform body about an axis perpendicular to its plane is equal to the sun of the moment of inertia of about any two mutually perpendicular axis intersecting the first axis
What is conservation of angular momentum
If no external torque is acting upon a body rotating about an axis then it’s angular momentum remains constant
What are the conditions for equilibrium of rigid bodies
- Centre of mass must move with constant velocity/ vector sim of forces must be zero
- Net torque of forces acting on body must be zero
