U6 Key Terms Flashcards
Book History
A field of study that examines the creation, circulation, and reception of books and other printed materials throughout history. It involves analyzing the various technological, social, cultural, and economic factors that have shaped the production and dissemination of literature, from the invention of the printing press to the digital age. Book history also encompasses the study of book collectors, libraries, and book markets, as well as the material aspects of printed works such as typography, illustrations, and bindings
Sociology of Texts
It is an interdisciplinary field of study that explores the social and cultural factors that shape the production, circulation, and consumption of texts (including books, newspapers, magazines, film, and other forms of media). It examines how texts reflect and influence social structures, relationships, and values, as well as how different social groups interpret and use texts
Communication Circuits
Refers to the various channels, processes, and interactions involved in the communication of meaning between authors, texts, and readers. It represents the interconnected network through which communication and interpretation occur.
Socialization of texts
The socialization of texts refers to the idea that written or printed materials are not just isolated, static objects, but are instead part of a complex social network that includes authors, readers, publishers, and other cultural influences. This concept recognizes that texts are not created in a vacuum, but are shaped by the cultural, historical, and social contexts in which they are produced. Furthermore, texts can also influence and shape the societies in which they circulate, as readers engage with and interpret the meanings of various texts, and those meanings become part of broader cultural conversations.
