U3 AOS3 Outcome 1 Specific Flashcards
Operations Management - Define
Regards the management of resources and functions within a business to achieve efficient output of finished goods or services further adding value for the customer.
Computer-Aided Manufacturing - Define
Relates to software used to allow the manufacturing process to be directed by computers, controlling the production process, commonly used alongside computer aided design.
Waste Minimisation - Define + Strategy
The process of reducing the amount of discarded resources created by the business operations system furthermore improving efficiency as less resources are used to produce outputs
A strategy of waste management includes introducing lean management and sourcing higher quality materials
Lean Management - Define
An approach that reviews all processes undertaken within the business with the aim to maximise customer value while reducing wastage created
Forecasting - Define, Effectiveness, Efficiency
Planning strategy where past data and trends are used to predict future demand so informed decisions can be made
Effectiveness:
Assure enough materials on hand to meet production needs
Efficiency:
Improves productivity because production doesn’t wait
Reduces overstocking
3 Key Elements of the Operations System
Inputs
Outputs
Processes
Inputs
The resources used in the process of production
Processes
All the activities that help transform the inputs into the final outputs
Outputs
Finished good or service that is produced
Automated Production Lines - Define + Adv & Dissadv
Where equipment and machines are arranged in a sequence and controlled by systems to perform tasks automatically.
Adv:
Improves: Accuracy, efficiency and safety
Dissadv:
High setup costs and slows or halts production
Computer-Aided Design - Define
Software that creates product possibilities from a series of parameters allowing the manager to view the end product and test and assess.
Supply Chain Management
The process of managing the flow of supplies from supplier, through the operations systems, and to the end consumer
Corporate Social Responsibility - Define
A business’s ongoing commitment to operate in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable manner while considering the interests of diverse stakeholders.
CSR - Considerations
Environmental sustainability of inputs
Amount of waste generated from processes
Quality Management
Ensures outputs produced are consistently reliable and durablele
