How do thrombolytics function?
They attack / dissolve blood clots that have already formed. AKA clot busters.
What are three types of thrombolytics?
Alteplase, reteplase, and tenecteplase
What are side effects of thrombolytics?
Infection, ecchymosis (skin discoloration), epistaxis (nosebleed), N/V, rash
What are adverse reactions of thrombolytics?
Angioedema, bleeding, GI bleed, hypo/hypertension, laryngeal edema, MI, bradycardia, tachycardia, heart failure, intracranial hemorrhage, seizures, anaphylactoid reactions, stroke, dysrhythmias, pulmonary edema, renal failure
What are contraindications of thrombolytics?
Intracranial bleeding, aneurysm, brain tumor, head trauma, thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, cerebral vascular accident
What are thrombolytics used to treat?
Pulmonary embolism, DVT, ischemic stroke, acute myocardial infarction
What is the antidote for thrombolytics?
Aminocaproic acid
