Human rights
A
- There is no universal or legalistic definition of human rights The closest we have is the list of rights set out in various declarations and treaties
- Broadly speaking, human rights are basic moral or legal entitlements that exist for all human beings, irrespective of any personal qualities or characteristics
- It is aimed at identifying the fundamental prerequisites for each human being leading a minimally good life beyond mere survival
- They attach to individuals who can invoke them, they are of high priority and compliance with them is mandatory rather than discretionary

- International declarations are non-binding agreements that set out aspirations or intentions of countries or international organisations who are party to it

Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
A
- It was adopted in a 1948
- It sets out guidelines, principles, and articles for Human Rights
- It has thirty articles
- It includes both negative freedoms, such as freedom from slavery, and positive freedoms, such as freedom of movement
- It also includes civil and political rights, such as the right to freedom of speech
- It also includes social, economic and cultural rights, such as the right to education

- International treaties are legally binding agreements between countries or international organisations in which they undertake to follow the obligations set out in the agreement and implement them into domestic law
