U10-Motion Flashcards
Position
the exact location of an object in space, typically described relative to a reference point or origin, and often expressed using coordinates on a coordinate system
Time
the measure of a change in a physical quantity or a magnitude used to quantify the duration of events
Distance
measures the length between objects or points without regard for direction
Speed
The rate of change of position of an object in any direction
Frame of Reference
a set of coordinates that define a standard for measuring motion and position
Vector
a quantity that has both magnitude and direction
Scalar
a quantity that can be described by its magnitude, or size, and a unit of measurement
Magnitude
a unit of measurement that is used to specify the size or intensity of an event
Displacement
the change in position of an object, regardless of the path taken
Velocity
the speed and direction of an object’s motion
