How can EU membership impact on decision making in the U.K.?
EU law takes precedence over U.K. Law, meaning laws passed by parliament that conflict with EU law are illegal
This contradicts parliamentary sovereignty
The PM is regularly involved in European Council meetings with other leaders. Critics argue that because they make EU law in these meetings this weakens the scrutiny function of parliament as it has only the power to approve or reject EU legislation that comes into force in the U.K.
This is one of the main reserved powers of Westminster
