-Bagenal’s 4,000 men were confronted by an Irish army of 5,000, led by O’Neill, O’Donnell and Hugh Maguire
-The rebels defeated the English army, killed Bagenal

-September- Spanish fleet- 28 warships- occupied the Irish port of
Kinsale with 3,300 men
-Under O’Neill and O’Donnell 6,000 men marched south from Ulster - English, under President of Munster, George Carew, and new Lord Deputy, Lord Mountjoy, reacted quickly + laid siege to Kinsale- 12,000 men
-The two armies clashed in December, resulting in a decisive English victory
