The height of the lower case letters. (Does not include what goes above and below it).
X-Height
The negative space which is fully or particularly enclosed by a letter form.
Counter
The short stroke extending of the main stroke of a letter form.
Serif
The imaginary line on which the capital letters reset.
Baseline
A major vertical or diagonal stroke in a letter form.
Stem
Any line (straight or curved) makes a part of a letter form.
Stroke
The portion of a lower case letter that extends below the baseline.
Desender
The portion of a lower case letter that extends above the x-height.
Asender
The amount of space in between two consecutive letters.
Kerning
The amount of space placed horizontally between letters in a line of copy.
Tracking
The amount of space placed vertically between lines of type.
Leading
The varying space between words, often adjusted to create a justified a line of copy.
Word Spacing
The Varying space between words, often adjusted to create a justified line of copy.
Word Spacing
To align lines of type that are equal in length so both edges of the columns are straight.
Justify
To align all lines of text in a column so the left side is straight.
Justified Left
To align all lines of text in a column so the right side is straight.
Justified Right
Lines of type of varying length that have been centered over one another.
Centered Type
A complete set of type of one size and one variation on a typeface.
Font
The complete range of sizes and variations of a typeface.
Type Family
A style of lettering. Each family of typeface can have variations on that typeface, like italics.
Typeface
What are the two types of typographical measurements?
Points and Picas
Equals to 1/72 of an inch or 1/12 pica.
Points
Equals to 1/6 of an inch.
Pica *12 picas to 1 inch
What are the variations of typefaces.
Plain, Bold, Italics, Outlined, Shadowed, Underlined, ——-line—-through, Underlined, small capitals, all capitals, drop out.
Where every line goes from one side of the column to the other.
Forced Justify
The last line in a justified column that does not go across.
Widow
When the last line in a column consists of only one word.
Orphan
Point: 72 Points=_____inch
^ 36 Points =___an inch

Pica: 12 points =____ Pica(s)
