types of variation (chapter 10) Flashcards
1
Q
types of variation
A
interspecific variation - variation between members of different species.
intraspecific variation - variation between organisms within a species.
2
Q
causes of variation
A
- differences in an organisms genetic material
- different enviroments in which organisms live
3
Q
genetic causes of varitaion
A
- different alleles in genes
- mutations in the DNA sequence
- independant assortment and crossing over in meiosis
4
Q
what is standard deviation
A
the measure of how spread the data is, a large standard deviation mean there is more variation.
5
Q
student’s t test
A
used to compare the means of data values of two populations
6
Q
spearman’s rank correlation coefficient
A
used to consider the relationship between two sets of data
- no correlation means no relationship between the data, positive means both increase/ decrease in value, negaitive means one set of data increases other decreases.
