adaptations (chapter 10) Flashcards
1
Q
types of adaptations
A
anatomical features - physical features
behavioural adaptations - they way an organism acts
physiological adaptations - processes inside an organism
2
Q
examples of anatomical adaptations
A
- body covering (hair, scales, feathers…)
- camouflage
- teeth
- mimicry
3
Q
examples of behavioural adaptations
A
- survival behaviours ( playing dead)
- courtship ( to attract a partner)
- seasonal behaviours : migration and hibernation
4
Q
examples of physiological adaptations
A
- poison production
- antibiotic production (in bacteria)
- water holding (store water in body to cope with dry eviroments)
5
Q
anatomical adaptations provide evidence for convergent evolution
A
-many organisms have analogous structures because they live in similar enviroments
- convergent evolution is when unrelated species begin to share similar traits. This is because of selection pressures.
6
Q
what are selection pressures?
A
factors that affect the organism’s chances of survival or reproductive success.
