Types Of Training Flashcards
Name the 7 types of training
Continuous Fartlek Interval Circuit Weight Plyometrics HIIT
What is continuous training?
Exercising the whole body for long periods of time without stopping (at least 20mins)
What is fartlek training?
Speed play - a form of continuous training that involves changing the speed or terrain that you run on
What is interval training?
Periods of high intensity work followed by period of rest
What is circuit training?
A type of interval training that involves doing a series of exercises (stations) one after another in a circuit
What is weight training?
Using resistance such as a weights machine or Dumbbells to perform exercises
What is plyometric training?
A range of jumping and bounding movements
What is HIIT training?
Short periods of very high intensity exercise (20s at 95% max) with short periods of rest
Name the 5 elements of warm up
Pulse raiser Mobility Stretching Dynamic movement Skill rehearsal
Explain what pulse raiser means (warm up)
Jogging for 3 mins to increase the heart rate and breathing rate
Explain what mobility means (warm up)
Exercises such as arm swings to move joints
Explain what stretching means (warm up)
Exercise such as hamstring or quadriceps stretch to increase flexibility
Explain what dynamic movement means (warm up)
Exercise such as side steps to get your body used to movements you’ll do in the activity
Explain what skill rehearsal means (warm up)
Activities such as pass and move drills to get you used to skills you’ll perform in the sport
List 7 benefits of warming up
Increase body temperature
Increase heart rate
Prepares the body for activity
Increases flexibility of muscles and joints
Increases pliability of ligaments and tendons
Increase blood flow and oxygen flow to muscles
Increase speed of muscle contraction
