Types of tissue Flashcards
squamous epithelial
- single thin layer of flattened cells with irregular substances
- found in the alveoli and endothelial tissue
what is the function of the squamous epithelial tissue?
form a membrane that allows diffusion of materials to pass through
how does the structure help the function of epithelial tissue
the thin layer allows diffusion to happen as it is flat so it can get through quickly
ciliated columnar epithelial
rectangular and have between 200-300 hair like protrusions known as cilia
- found in bronchioles
what is the function of ciliated columnar epithelial
- clear substance or very foreign bodies over epithelial surfaces
how does the structure help the function in a ciliated columnar epithelial
the cilia moves so it helps play a role in the moving
goblet cells
cup shaped cells
- narrow base then oval at the top
what is the function of goblet cells?
secrete mucins which are significant to the component of mucus
-forms a blanket over the cells
how does the structure help the function in goblet cells?
the cell contains organelles neccessary for the production of mucins
