In his article the author makes use of a line of argumentation and uses a specific choice of words as well as stylistic devices to bring his message across (insert message) to the reader which will be analysed in the following.
Define News Report
Articles which are often found on the first page of a newspaper. They inform readers about general news from an objective pov.
Define feature article
Explore current events in more depth and rather long. They may be triggered by a story that had been in the news for a while. The purpose of a feature is not to just tell what has happened, but to explore and analyse the reasons why. A feature usually provides background information on the topic. The journalistic style is more personal and may attempt to appeal the the reader’s emotions.
Define Editorial/column
A text by “personality writers” They are written to inform from a personal point of view because the writer’s expert opinion is valued, or they are written to entertain the reader because the author has a comic or interesting way of describing everyday life. These texts are subjective.
Define Letter to the editor
A letter to comment or criticise an article. The style is usually formal and the text starts by addressing the editor “Dear Editor” or “Dear Sir or Madam”. The text is often subjective because it reflects a personal point of view on an issue
Style: How do you analyse the tone?
F.e: serious/ objective/ personal/ subjective/ entertaining/ sarcastic/ humorous/
Language: how does the author want to appear

Hypotactic structure: formal/ elaborate language complete and complex sentence structures
Paratactic structure: topic specific vocabulary, informal/ colloquial language, short forms, long forms, short, snappy sentences
What is the difference between a Comment and a discussion?
Comment: state your own opinion, choose only one side
Discussion: Cover arguments of both sides
