What is rate?
Rate is a ratio of two related quantities that have different units.
What are some examples of rate?
Speed, Money Exchange rate. Interest rate
What is unit rate?
It is a comparison of two measurements in which one of the terms has a value of 1
John earns $4 per hour. What does this mean?
This is an example of rate.
It means John earns $4 in 1 hour.
The unit rate is $4/hr
How do find unit rate?
We divide one measurement with the other
John earns $4 per hour. How do we find how much he earns in 5 hours?
We mulitply the unit rate with the number of hours
He earns $4 * 5 = $20
4 day tour cost $1000. What is the cost for 1 day?
Unit rate = $1000/4day
= $250/day
Tutor charges $80 for 2 hours . What is the rate for 1 hour?
Unit rate = $80/2hr
= $40/hr
Cindy can type 120 words in 3 minutes, How many words can she type in 7 minute?
Unit rate = 120 words/ 3 minutes
= 40 words/minute
7 minutes she can type 7 * 40 words
= 280 words
4 day tour cost $1000. What is the cost for 8 days?
Unit rate = $1000/4day
= $250/day
8 days cost $250 * 8 = $2000

Unit rate = $80/2hr
= $40/hr
