Speed Flashcards
What is Speed?
It measures how fast an object is moving and is measured by the distance travelled per unit of time
What are some common units of measurement for Speed?
m/s
km/h
What is the formula for Speed?
How do you use this diagram?
We cover up the word Speed
What is the formula for Distance?
How do you use this diagram?
We cover up the word Distance
What is the formula for Time?
How do you use this diagram?
We cover up the word Time
What is Average Speed
How to find average speed?
We must add up all the distance travelled
We must add all the time taken to travel
Then we divide total distance with total time
If we wait at a place and rest, is there a change in time?
Yes, as time never stops.
John runs for 4 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. He then walks another 6 minutes. To calculate total time taken to travel, must we add the time he rest?
Yes
Total time is 4 + 10 + 6 = 20 minutes
John runs 1500 m in 4 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. He then walks another 1000 m in 6 minutes. To calculate total distance travel, what do we add?
1500 m + 1000 m = 2500m
John runs 1500 m in 4 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. He then walks another 1000 m in 6 minutes. What is the average speed in m/min?
Total distance is 1500 m + 1000 m = 2500m
Total time is 4 + 10 + 6 = 20 minutes
Average speed = 2500/20
= 125 m/min
A man runs 420 m in 60 seconds. What is his speed?
Speed = 420 m/60s
= 7 m/s
A car travels at a speed of 80 km/h for 2 hours. What is the distance travelled?
Dist = 80 km/h * 2 h
= 160 km
A plane travelled 700 km at a speed of 350 km/h. How much time did it travel?
Time = 700 /350
= 2 h
