Types of rainfall Flashcards
1
Q
Convectional rain
A
Falls on warm, sunny days when the ground heats up
2
Q
Relief rain
A
Falls on high ground when the wind blows moist air over hills
3
Q
Frontal rain
A
Falls when warm air and cold air meet at a front
4
Q
Common elements to all three types of rainfall
A
- Warm air rises into the atmosphere and then cools
- When the cold air has formed clouds and the water vapour has condensed, the water falls back to the ground.
ALL Of THESE PROCESSES PRODUCE PRECIPITATION
5
Q
What are the differences between the three types of rainfall?
CONVECTIONAL
RELIEF
FRONTAL
A
Convectional: The HEAT of the sun moves the water vapour upwards
Relief: The high ground (relief) moves the water vapour
Frontal: Cold air ( in the front) moves the water vapour
