What are the four types of economic activity?
Primary: How we obtain natural resources from land or sea. Eg: mining, agriculture and fishing.
Secondary: These are things that we make from natural resources eg: making cars or phones.
Tertiary: Services for people eg: education, tourism and healthcare.
Quaternary: Hi tech research for other industries eg: web design, biotechnology

Changes in job activities over the last 200 years
In 1800 70% of workers worked in primary industry. By 2000 that figure was 10%
In 1800, 20% of people worked in secondary industries. That figure rose during the industrial revolution to just over 40% and has now fallen to 30%
In 1800, tertiary industry accounted for 10% of jobs. Over the last 200 years that has risen to 55%
What happened to jobs during the Industrial Revolution and beyond?
Pre Industrial revolution most people worked as farmers
During the 19th C more people began to work in the manufacturing industries.
By 1900 half the workforce worked in factories.
Since we have become wealthier more people work in service industries.
The number of jobs in primary and secondary industries has reduced. Lots of raw materials are imported.
