What are insider pressure groups?

A

Government connection, regular access to ministers. Tend to be lower profile with views that are less radical in line with Government views and employ lobbyists, provide evidence to committees and advise in special areas. Tend to give advice and recommendation in policy and perhaps specialise in an area of policy.

BMA (British Medical Association) which is helpful in policy making in a number of areas particularly the NHS

What is an outsider pressure group?

A

No direct government connection, tend to be more radical and use the media and public opinion to take support. They might be out of the loop in ideology, necessity or just potential insiders.

A

Amnesty International who focus on making sure the government protects human rights.

What is a interest pressure group?

A

Membership linked to a particular occupation or part of society . Self interested wanting to benefit the members they represent. Seek public support but likely to have government links. Formal membership and legal in practice. Big cooperation can also be considered in this category. Tend to be more exclusive in membership.
