Gurkha Justice Campaign

A
  • t wanted the Gurkhas who fought for the UK to gain the same rights as their British and Commonwealth counterparts.
  • Gurkhas are Nepalese soldiers who serve in the British army. Until 1997, they were based in Hong Kong, but they had to relocate to the UK
  • From 2004 the GJC spent 4 years trying to persuade Blair and Brown
  • In 2008 Joanna Lumley joined the campaign which picked up media attention and Lib Dem support
  • The movement defeated Labour historically in parliament
