When a manager leads by exercising authority according to the organization’s hierarchy and their position within the company

A
When a person without formal authority is able to influence and direct the behaviour of others

- Reward
- Ability to give employees rewards.
E.g. a raise; bonuses - Coercive
- Capability to punish or withhold positive outcomes.
E.g. termination; verbal reprimands - Legitimate
- Capability to control other people by your job position.
E.g. “I am the boss and you do as I say!”
