inhibitory transmitter and regulates anxiety ( excess= anxiety disorder)
Agonist
mimic neurotransmitters; the structure is similar enough to that of a neurotransmitter that it mimics the affects on the receiving neuron
Antagonist
structured similarly enough to the neurotrans. to occupy its receptor site and block its action, but not enough to stimulate the receptor
