Types Of Mendelian Inheritance Flashcards
Autosomal recessive
Phenotype can skip generations
Both parents must be carriers
Affects males and females
Autosomal dominant
Phenotype appears in every generation
Affects males and females equally
X-linked recessive
More males than females are affected because males with only one mutant allele are hemizygous
Transmission through unaffected carrier female
-half of sons are affected, half of daughters carriers - no daughters are affected
Transmission through hemizygous affected male
-all daughters are carries, no one affected
Transmission through affected female
-all sons will be affected and all daughters will be carriers
X-linked dominant
Affected males pass on the condition to all daughters by to none of their sons
Affected females with unaffected male partners pass the condition to half sons and half daughters
Y-linked inheritance
Male to male transmission
Males are always affected. No females affected
