Q

glenohumeral

A

ball and socket jt. 3 degrees of freedom. (flex/ext, abd/add, horizontal abd/hor add). glenoid labrum= fibrocartilage that surrounds the periphery of the glenoid fossa, provides depth. In anatomical pos, Lig joint capsule is taut superiorly and loose anteriorly and inferiorly.

Q

sternoclavicular jt movements and ligaments

A

only bony articulation between shoulder girdle and trunk. elevation/depression, protraction/retraction, and rotation of clavicle permits movement of scapula. ant and post SC ligaments; costoclavicular ligaments (runs from first rib to clavicle, checks elevation); interclavicular lig (runs between clav’s, checks depression)

Q

acromioclavicular joint and motions possible

A

plane synovial joint connecting the acromian of the scap and the lateral end of the clavicle. allows additional scapula motion on the thorax during shoulder motion. scap rotation upward/down around anteroposterior axis, winging around vert axis, tipping around mediolateral axis. Fibrocartilage disk degenerates 4th decade of life. Jt capsule=weak, little stability, Sup and Inf AC ligs assist capsule to control horizontal displacement at the AC joint. Coracoclavic. lig= primary restraint preventing superior translation of clavicle on acromion

Q

GH joint ligament functions

A

superior GH lig.=restrains anterior translation of humerus at 0 deg ABD.
Middle GH lig= restrains ant trans of hum at 45 deg abd
Inf GH lig complex=restrains ant trans at 90. includes Ant band, axillary pouch, post band.
