Q

Steroid Hormones

A
  • composed of lipids (fats)
  • pass through target cell membrane which is made of fat
  • attached to a receptor in the cell cytoplasm
  • the hormone-receptor complex enters the nucleus
  • hormone-receptor complex activates a gene
  • activated gene controls the reaction needed in the cell-

Q

Protein Hormones

A

-are not fat soluble
-work by a Second Messenger Hypotheses
-protein hormone (1st messenger) binds to receptor on
target cell surface
-hormone-receptor complex activates an enzyme
-enzyme converts ATP to cyclic AMP (cAMP) – the 2nd
messenger
-cAMP triggers a series of desired reactions in the cell
