TYPES OF GENE MUTATION AND TYPES OF CHROMOSOME MUTATION Flashcards
base is lost/deleted
Deletion
added/inserted
Insertion
one base is changed/substituted
Substitution
if it changes the amino acid
Missense
if it DOES NOT changes the amino acid
Silent
If the amino acid to STOP
Nonsense
A part in the chromosome or sequence of DNA is left out during the DNA replication
Chromosome Deletion
An extra copy of segment of chromosome
Chromosome Duplication
Two different chromosomes have exchange segments
Reciprocal Translocation
Certain type of chromosome is attached to other
Robertsonian Translocation
Chromosome segment is rearrange and is reverse. SIngle chromosome undergoes
breakage and rearrangement within itself
Chromosome Inversion
● Normal chromosomes has one long arm (q) and one short arm (p) arm
● has two long arms and two short arms = extra or missing of genes
Isochromosomes
● Circular structure that occurs when chromosomes break in two places and ends fuse
together
○ Caused by deletion in both arms of chromosomes and this will result in missing
DNA
Chromosome Rings
