Types of Forklifts Flashcards
What are the 3 types of forklifts?
- Electric Forklift
- – For use in confined spaces. - Petrol/LPG/Diesel Forklift (internal combustion)
- – Where there is plenty of open air/ventilation - Rough Terrain Forklift
- – Where ground is uneven, boggy or unstable
When should you NOT use an internal combustion forklift?
In a Confined Space e.g. container or cool room, as the fumes could kill.
What are some control measures (5) you could put in place if pedestrians, site personnel, vehicles or mobile plant will be working in the same area as you?
1) Setting up flashing hazard lights
2) Using a Traffic Mangement Plan
3) Setting up warning signs and barriers
4) Using a flag person or traffic controller to control traffic
5) Setting up pedestrian and vehicle exclusion zones
What is a control strategy you could implement when operating at night or in a dark area?
Additional lighting across the entire work area
What is the fulcrum?
The point of balance where the front tyre touches the ground. Everything behind that point is used to counter the weight of the load that is being lifted.
What is rear end swing?
Rear end swing is the fast sideways movement at the rear of the forklift. It’s dangerous as the back wheels turn up to 3.5 times faster than the speed of travel, so it puts pedestrians and other plant that may be too close at risk of being hit.
