Types of Footing PPT Flashcards
Used beneath individual columns. They can be square or rectangular in shape. They spread the load of the column to the soil in two perpendicular directions.
Isolated Spread Footing
Support bearing walls essentially in a one dimensional action by cantilevering out on both sides of the wall
Strip/Wall Footing
Used to support two or more columns. Usually they have a rectangular or trapezoidal plan. Such footings are often used when a column is close to a property line.
Combined Footing
Used to transmit the loads of columns or bearing walls to a series of piles. These piles transfer the loads from the upper poor soils layers to deeper and stronger soil layers.
Pile Caps
Constructed to connect the eccentrically loaded footing to interior column footing.
Strap Footing
One large footing carrying the loads of all the columns of the structure. This type of foundation is used when weak soil layers are present but piles are not used.
