What is kinship?
How individuals are related to one and other e.g. by blood, marriage, or adoption.
What is the difference between a family and a household?
Family-related by blood or marriage
Household-group of people who live together and share things e.g. meals, bills, chores
What is the nuclear family?
Two-generation family of a man and women, and their dependent children (own or adopted).
What is the bean pole family?
Vertically extended but NOT horizontally extended e.g. grandparents, parents, children NOT aunts, uncles, cousins.
What is the reconstituted family?
Step family, one or both partners has children from a previous relation ship.W
What is the empty nest family?
Couple who had children, but they now have left the family home.
What is the empty shell family?
Two parents who have no emotional or sexual ties with one another, but live with their child in one household.
What is the same-sex family?
Homosexual couples living together with children.
What is the single parent family?
Individual taking care of children without a partner.
What is the extended family?
Any group of kin(ship) extended beyond the nuclear family, extended or vertically.
What is the chosen family/family of choice?
We have a say in who is part of our family.
