Types Of Experiments Flashcards
What are the 4 types of experiments?
*Laboratory
*Field
*Natural
*Quasi
What is a laboratory experiment?
Somewhere purposely set up for the study
What is a field experiment?
Natural setting for ppts
What is a natural experiment?
*IV arises naturally e.g covid
*But DV can still be measured in a laboratory or any other location
What is a quasi experiment?
*Not a ‘true’ experiment =researcher has not deliberately manipulated IV
*Ppts randomly allocated
What is a strength of a laboratory experiment?
*High levels of control
*High internal validity
*Access to large equipment
What is a strength of a field experiment?
*High ecological validity
*Demand characteristics reduced
What is a strength of a natural experiment?
*Study real life
*Behaviour=higher external validity
What is a strength of quasi experiment?
*Study real life=higher external validity
What is a weakness of both natural and quasi experiments?
*Threat to internal validity=less control over extraneous variables
