What is conformity
A
Conformity occurs when a person adopts the attitudes, behaviours and beliefs of a group in response to real or imagined pressure.

What is INTERNALISATION
A
- When a person genuinely accepts group pressure
- Private + Public change
- Permanent change because attitudes become a part of personal beliefs.

What is IDENTIFICATION
A
- When indivisuals conform to opinions and behaviours of group because there is something in a group they VALUE.
- Publically agree but privately dont

What is COMPLIANCE
A
- people change opinions and behaviour to fit in with the group
- publically agree but privately dont
- Conformity stops as soon as pressure stops

What is normative social influence (NSI)
A
- need to be LIKED
- we conform to a group for acceptance. The group either accepts us or rejects us.
- Results in COMPLIANCE

What is informative social influence
A
- Need to be RIGHT
- when in uncertain and in ambigous sitatuions we look to others for guidance.
- results in internalisation
