40 american volunteers from different backgrounds
Fake aim: study on role of punishment in learning
Real aim: obedience in authority.
Took place in a lab at yale university
Participant was teacher, learner was confederate
fixed assignment but participant thought randomly assigned.
particpants ordered to give electric shocks
they didnt know shocks were fake
