- 40 american volunteers from different backgrounds
- Fake aim: study on role of punishment in learning
- Real aim: obedience in authority.
- Took place in a lab at yale university
- Participant was teacher, learner was confederate
- fixed assignment but participant thought randomly assigned.
- particpants ordered to give electric shocks
- they didnt know shocks were fake
- experimenter in the same room wearing white lab coat
- experimenter encouraged participant when they faltered with a series of prods

Results of this experiment
A
- ALL gave 300V
- 65% gave the full 450V
- Qualitative datat collected
- Extreme signs of tension showed like sweating, trembling.
- 3 participants had full blown uncontrolable seizures
