Q

How is the epiphyseal line of long bones formed?

A

During growth a thin layer if hyaline cartilage (the epiphyseal plate) separates the diaphyses and epiphyses if the long bone - this allows for growth. When growth stops in early adulthood the cartilage is replaced with a bony structure called the epiphyseal line

Q

What is the structure of flat bones?

A

Flat bones are formed of two thin periosteum covered cortical bone plates separated by a thin layer of endosteum covered spongy bone. Bone marrow is also present although there is no medullary cavity.
