Compliance, identification and internalisation
What is are order of least to most powerful? Most powerful first
Internalisation, identification, compliance
What is internalisation?
When individuals genuinely believe what they conform to doing, they believe them in public and in private.
What is compliance?
Conforming only because you wish to avoid disapproval but you perhaps disagree in private.
Identification
You conform because you’ve learned to adjust to fit others opinions because you have a desire to genuinely fit in, in public
What’s Systematic processing?
An explanation for resisting obedience. It suggests that some wil l resist because of the destructive consequences of their actions.
What’s locus of control?
A dispositional theory by Rutter proposing that some people believe that they have more agency to change their situation than others and thus are more able to resist authority
