type identity Flashcards

1
Q

identity theory (Reductive Physicalism or Materialism)

A

the basic idea is that there are different types of brain states that can be attributed to certain states/sensations in the body i.e. pain

Mental states are identical to brain states, even though mental concepts differ in meaning from physical concepts. Both types of concepts have the same referent, and both can & should be studied scientifically.

Q

Is Multiple Realization compatible with (Type) Identity Theory?
