A
autoimmune condition:
- body attacks insulin producing cells (islets of langerhans) in pancreas
lack of insulin results in failure to regulate glucose levels which is dangerous/life threatening

A
Hyperglycemic - insulin not present to help store glucose from blood into muscles & cells.
