- Cooperate with H&S guidelines
- Take care of their own actions and those affected by their actions
- Not interfere with or misuse anything related to their H&S or welfare
- Inform person in charge of any hazards

- Ensure safety of staff and others
- Provide safe equipment and systems
- Ensure safe handling and use of substances
- Provide information, instruction, training and supervision
- Provide healthy conditions with welfare facilities.
What should you do if unsure about somebody’s competency?
They should be supervised appropriately to their level of competency and risk involved.
It should be planned in advance and properly planned for.
Can you explain how to carry out a risk assessment?
- Identify the hazards
- Decide who might be harmed and how
- Evaluate the risks and precautions
- Record significant findings and implement them
- Review and update
Can you list all emergency information that is important to give contractors when they arrive on site?
- How to raise fire alarm
- Who calls the emergency services?
- What the fire alarm sounds like and what to do
- Where exit routes are
- Where the assembly points are
- What not to do
Outline the requirements to report incidents and accidents
REPORTING INCECIDENTS of DISEASE DANGEROUS OCCURENCES REGULATIONS (RIDDOR)
Requires some types of accidents and incidents to be reported to the authorities.
It is used by the HSE and local authorities to determine whether it needs investigation.
Normally it is the employer or person in control of the premises’ responsibility to make the report.
Staff should report any incident to their supervisor immediately regardless of injury or not.
Near misses also need reporting.
E.g.
- Collapse, overturning or failure of any load bearing part of any lifting equipment
- Failure of closed vessel or pipework
- Some types of fire or explosion (unintentional ones)
- Unintentional contact with overhead electrical lines
- Collapse of scaffolding over 5m
- Any drowning risk
Employers must keep an accident book
Can you explain what to do if the work place is not secure?
Secure it using appropriate means- allowing for emergency egress.
I permitted persons should be accompanied out of danger and then the supervisor should be told
What are the requirements of PPE?
- Properly assessed and fit for purpose
- Maintained and stored correctly
- Used correctly
It must also fit properly and adequately control the risks present.

How should manual handling operation be planned?
Avoid the need to handle hazardous items
