A

REPORTING INCECIDENTS of DISEASE DANGEROUS OCCURENCES REGULATIONS (RIDDOR)

Requires some types of accidents and incidents to be reported to the authorities.

It is used by the HSE and local authorities to determine whether it needs investigation.

Normally it is the employer or person in control of the premises’ responsibility to make the report.

Staff should report any incident to their supervisor immediately regardless of injury or not.

Near misses also need reporting.

E.g.
- Collapse, overturning or failure of any load bearing part of any lifting equipment
- Failure of closed vessel or pipework
- Some types of fire or explosion (unintentional ones)
- Unintentional contact with overhead electrical lines
- Collapse of scaffolding over 5m
- Any drowning risk

Employers must keep an accident book
