tx Flashcards
acute bacterial mastitis
antibiotics, continue expression of breast milk; rarely requires surgical drainage.
Squamous Metaplasia of Lactiferous Ducts
• AKA: Subaerolar abscess, Periductal mastitis, or Zuska dz.
o Commonly recur following drainage d/t remaining keratinizing epi.
o Curative if the duct & fistula tract are surgically removed.
Granulomatous Mastitis
steroids
DCIS
Surgical excision and radiation/tamoxifen = Mostly curative
Mastectomy = Cure in 95%
LCIS
B/l prophylactic mastectomy, tamoxifen can also be done.
ER(+), HER2(-), Low Proliferation Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
anti-estrogen (tamoxifen); cured by sx; not respond to chemo
ER(+), HER2(-), high Proliferation Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
10% respond to chemo
HER+ Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
- 1/3 respond completely to Ab (trastuzumab) that bind & block receptor activity = excellent prognosis.
- May respond to trastuzumab or may make them resistant to all tx
ER(-), HER2(-) Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
30% respond well to chemo and cure is possible.
male breast cancer
mastectomy and axillary LN dissection
phyllodes tumor (cystosarcoma)
NOT LN dissection bc lymphatic spread rare
