prognosis Flashcards
DCIS
Untreated: 1% → invasive cancer in the same quadrant w similar grade and expression of ER/HER2.
Higher grade has a higher risk of progression.
Death rate = better than the general pop’n as mammography may be a marker for socioeconomic status
paget dis of nipple
depends on underlying carcinoma; not skin manifestations
ER(+), HER2(-), Low Proliferation Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
usu found early, cured y sx; low recurrence
HER+ Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
met early, when small –> viscera and brain
ER(-), HER2(-) Invasive (infiltrating) Carcinoma
met early, when small –> viscera and brain
• Recurrence within 5 yrs of tx.
• Local recurrence = common, even w mastectomy.
• Prolonged survival after distant metastases is rare.
medullary carcinoma
good bc good response to chemo
inflammatory carcinoma
poor - 3yr survival 3-10%
if the CA invades axillary LNs
10 yr survival
• No nodal involvement = 70-80%
• 1-3 (+) LNs = 35-40%
• 10 LNs = 10-15%
if CA has lymphovasc invasion
bad prognosis, yes recurrence
phyllodes tumor (cystosarcoma)
- low grade: can recur, not mets
- high grade: usu recurs
angiosarcoma
poor bc high grade
