The placement of materials in a geographic, temporal, etc. context with other similar artifacts; the study of artifact classes with common characteristics; classification according to artifact type.
Artifact Typology
Classification based on cultural use or function rather than on outward form or chronological position
Functional Typology
A descriptive and abstract grouping of individual artifacts whose focus is on overall similarity rather than specific form or function. The shape, size, and superficial characteristics of artifacts, features, structure, sites, etc., provided by measurements (including weight) that permit comparative statistical analysis of attributes and frequencies.
Morphological typology
The classification of artifacts into types to compare artifacts or features across time and space, or to determine relative dates for sites.
Typological method
The study of classes with common characteristics; classification of artifacts; the systemic classification of artifacts or remains according to type.
Typology

Sociopolitical typology
The study of language with a focus on the structure and diversity of languages
Linguistic typology
Methodology through which language is classified based on the combination style of morphemes within the language. The main two categories are analytic and synthetic languages. Created by Friedrich and August von Schlegel.

Categorization or classification of culture according to race
Anthropological typology
The typology that classifies male/female transsexualism to address the different types of individuals who seek reassignment surgery; developed by Ray Blanchard in the last two decades of the 20th century.
Blanchard’s transsexualism typology
This classification system is associated with language created by Tadeusz Milewski, dividing languages into 6 groups based on syntactic relationships
Milewski’s typology
Typing that addressed individual differences from a psychophysiological perspective
Pavlov’s typology
The USDA’s means of classifying farms, dividing them into eight groups including: non-family farms, farming occupation/high sales, farming occupation/low sales, residential/lifestyle farms, large family farms, and very large family farms
Farm typology
Medical typology traditional within Korea created by Lee Je-ma, dividing people based on Greater Yang, Lesser Yang, Greater Yin, and Lesser Yin
Sasang typology
Type of typology in which various traits are used to classify artifacts
