tut 2 Flashcards
what is fuselage line for
reference position used to determine forward and aft positions of an aircraft
what is water line for
horizontal reference plane to locate and document vertical position of an aircraft
what is butt line for
references location for positions to the left and right of centre
types of fuselage construction
warren truss - longerons are only connected to diagonal members
pratt truss - diagonal members for tension/compression loads
monocoque - in a form of tube or cone without internal structural reinforcement members
semi monocoque - skin is reinforced with internal structural members
steps for damage tolerant design
1) know which parts are damage tolerant
2) define load conditions and damage extent
3) conduct representative tests
4) analyse crack initiation, crack propagation rate, remanding strength
