TUT 1 Flashcards
Define occlusion.
Static relationship between the incising or masticating surfaces of the maxillary and mandibular teeth or tooth analogues
Define ICP.
- intercuspal position
- complete intercuspation of the opposing teeth independent of condylar position
Define RCP.
- retruded contact position
- guided occlusal relationship occurring at the most retruded position of the condyles in the joint cavities
- fixed throughout life
Define index teeth.
Contacting facets of teeth in the intercuspal position
What does it mean to conform to the occlusion?
- works best in stable occlusion with sufficient index teeth
- ensure prothesis doesn’t alter occlusion
- use ICP
What does it mean to change the occlusion?
- occlusion is unstable and there is a lack of index teeth
- use RCP
What can be used to obtain an inter-occlusal record?
- bite reg paste
- wax wafer
- alminax
How should you use a wax wafer to record the occlusion?
- use softened wax on saddles so that index teeth can touch, and you can see that they contact
- if small saddles, use wax posteriorly so that anterior occlusion can be seen
Why is bite reg paste not ideal for dentures?
Too flexible and can come apart, difficult to relocate if larger saddles
What is the minimum length of a CoCr clasp?
15mm
How much of the clasp should be in the undercut?
1/3
What is the function of the clasp arm that is not engaging the undercut?
Bracing
What is the minimum height of undercut required and why?
- 1-3mm
- to prevent gingival trauma and plaque traps
Give examples of precision attachments.
- ball on post and diaphragm
- tubelock
When is a two-part denture indicated?
When there is gross tissue loss and different paths of insertion
