What is TLS?
A
potentially deadly condition related to the treatment of high-grade lymphomas and leukaemias.

What can trigger TLS?
A
usually triggered by the introduction of combination chemotherapy
OR steroid treatment alone.

What does TLS cause?
A
high potassium
high phosphate
low calcium
suspected in any patient with AKI, high PO4 and high urate

TLS prevention
A
- IVF (0.9% NaCl)
- allopurinol or rasburicase for prevention

Why should rasburicase and allopurinol not be given together in the management of TLS
A
this reduces the effect of rasburicase
