Tuesday 3 - facial nerve Flashcards

1
Q

4 main components of the facial nerve

A
  1. Branchial motor (major role): efferent supply to
ipsilateral muscles of facial expression &
    stapedius (branchial motor)
  2. Visceral Motor: Preganglionic parasympathetics
to lacrimal gland, submandibular & sublingual glands
  3. Somatic sensory: afferent supply to ipsilateral
part of outer ear, nasal cavity and soft palate
  4. Visceral (special) sensory: ipsilateral afferent
supply for taste to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue
